Our Becca is learning how to walk with God.
This morning she offered to fix her sister's breakfast of cereal. She chose to give her sister her own special dish, cup and spoon. I heard her in the kitchen and told her that she was being considerate. She didn't know what it meant, so we looked it up on-line.
showing kindly awareness or regard for another's feelings, circumstances, etc.: a very considerate critic.
I asked her why she was being so considerate and she told me that Jesus wanted her to behave that way. I encouraged her to keep listening to Him.
Later this evening she came to me. She was upset and not sure she was Christian anymore. I asked her if she was listening to lies. We have discussed before how the enemy lies to us. We discussed conviction. I explained that the Lord leads us all a little differently, because we are all unique and we need to follow our Lord even if He leads us differently from everyone else. If Jesus were leading us to the library, he'd lead you differently than he'd lead our friend in Texas...differently even than he'd lead our friend up the road. None of us is in the same place. Conviction. Certainty that you're following His plan for you.
Then we discussed condemnation. I told her that that was what she was feeling. It's what the enemy does. Lies. "Becca, it's like this. What if I told you you weren't good enough because you have a purple nose?" She looked at me funny.
"You're ears are as big as pineapples." She laughed. "You're stupid." She froze.
"Becca, everything I told you were lies. Why were the first ones funny? Why wasn't the last one just as funny? It was rediculous too, you know. That's why we have to cuddle up close to Jesus. Read his Word in the Bible, pray, listen to His voice. He tells you to be considerate and give your sister her breakfast in special dishes. He tells you to obey your parents so you may be blessed. He tells you to love God and one another."
"The more you listen to HIm, the more the enemy's lies are as stupid as saying you have a Christmas tree sticking up out of your head. You can laugh in his face when he calls you 'stupid' or 'clumsy' or anything else. You will recognize every lie."
Becca seemed to understand then. "Does this mean I'm walking with Jesus, Mama?" "Yes, just as if you're holding His hand."
She was so happy she about danced off, hand in hand with Jesus. To go clean her room in obedience to her Dear Friend. Lord, I want faith like that! Amen.
