If anyone's having trouble communicating or justifying your "delight-directed" approach to more "scope and sequence" oriented school districts (for those who have to report), check out The Learning Success Institute. http://www.learningsuccessinstitute.com/cmd.php?af=781933
Their resources are great, including the Learning Style Profile
http://www.aselfportraitonline.net/store/default.asp?promo=LS8INFWENT
which I had each of my three older boys do, and I included it in my homeschool plan submission for the year. Helping you and your child identify and affirm their unique Talents, Interests, Modalities, Environment and Disposition, it also provides a great summary and recommendations for creative ways to foster, encourage and affirm their life path and fuel the fire. I also love www.strengthsmovement.com - book: "Your Child's Strengths - Discover Them, Develop Them, Use Them." You hit it first, Terri - thankfully, the rest of the world is catching on, even some of the "enlightened" public and private school!

Hi Everyone. I read Ignite the Fire several times. Right now I have to find it again and reread it. We have two daughters, 10 and 3 years old. My dh is working 4pm to midnight for the next few weeks and, of course, I've found another (GREAT) internet addiction. HA
The Lord has answered a prayer and provided a hands-on mentor. We all need someone who can "get" where we are and help us out of our ditches, showing us the right road to take. We don't have to follow that road to the end, but it sure beats the ditch until we find our own.

Hello! I have not yet read the book, although I finally did order it! I will get to as soon as it gets in. I am looking forward to re-igniting the fire not only in our homeschool, but within me! Thank you for the invite, am looking forward to connecting.
Blessings,
Andrea

"My deepest fear is waking up twenty years from now
still the same woman I am today. With the same
annoying habits and petty attitudes; with the same
besetting sins and false beliefs. I can't imagine
anything more terrible then getting to the end
of my life only to discover that God had so
much more in mind for me - more freedom,
more joy, more peace, more true effectiveness.
And I had missed it all, simply because I refused
to change."

Hello, Thanks for the invite Terri! :-D

I have not read the book for several years. I actually borrowed it from a friend who has moved, I really should buy my own, but it has impacted the way I help my children learn. What a load it lifted when I realized the pressure I was putting on myself to teach my kids and helping them find their intersts.
In the mean time, I have gone back to school to learn Medical Transcription and work full time from home I love it. My hubby and my oldest daughter help with teaching. My day starts at 4:30 a.m. so I will be turning in soon, but the thing that has stayed with me from Ignite The Fire is encouraging the kids in their own interests. It has been fun to watch their flames grow. My oldest goes back and forth between forensics, robotics and computer science. He is a 15-year-old, now we are looking to see how it all works together. Next is the 13-year-old and she is very creative with art and music. She also loves interior design.
Next, my 12-year-old loves dogs and nature and goes back and forth between being a vet and a scrub nurse for sugeries and stuff.
Then there is the 9-year-old that lives for candy right now. She is full of spiz and fire herself and someday when that is all harnessed she will be a dynamo in whatever she wants to do.
I don't know if that was what you are looking for for the board, but anyone that is interested in homeschooling I tell them about ITF. I will buy my own copy now that I am a working mama.
Thanks Terri

Hello! It has been a while since I have read the book, I have been busy having babies so I can't wait to get back into the swing of things and try more of the ideas. I need to re-read the book for motivation!! :) Maybe when I get a little free time.

I read this book a while ago, too. I got it from the library. Now that we have some money, I think I'll buy it! I love the ideas in the book and incorporate them in our homeschooling.

Thanks for inviting me through the Firetime yahoo list,

Penney

I'm going to be converting some of my talks that I did at those conferences to mp3's for the "community." Also, I have a lot of the interviews I did on The Path Home that I will be converting as well. The cool thing is that this site is not going to be about me, but about all of you! I love it! I'm so excited!

It's been MANY years since I've read Ignite the Fire, but still using ideas from it and notebooking strong - and it remains on my shelves for quick reference. Also many years since I've seen you Terri at those homeschool conventions with our booths.
